Together with Lorenza Mazzetti is a portrait of the artist at 90, using interviews and extracts from her films. Mazzetti was the only woman of the Free Cinema, which revolutionised the British film industry and captured post-war society on the cusp of change. While the males of Free Cinema became known for their realism, Mazzetti’s films were more radical and avant-garde. Speaking in her home in Rome, Mazzetti tells the story of her youth, beginning with her childhood in Italy and the massacre of her family by Nazi soldiers that left Lorenza and her twin sister Paola as sole survivors. Almost 75 years later the sisters are shown still living in adjacent flats, and Paola is also interviewed. Lorenza goes on to talk about her time in London in the 1950s and the beginnings of her filmmaking career while studying at the Slade School of Fine Art. For the first time she discusses The Country Doctor, one of two short films she adapted from stories by Franz Kafka. Together with Lorenza Mazzetti documents the rediscovery of the film considered lost at the time of the interview. Lorenza also discusses her best-known film, Together, and her relationship with the director Lindsay Anderson.
