To describe the power and delicacy of Marco Simon Puccioni’s gaze, one need only show how he films his characters, always at the proper distance, often standing in the shadows, with their faces partially cloaked as if he did not want to get too close, spy on them, rob them of a fragment of their intimacy. At the centre there is a tragic true story, that of Armida Miserere (an excellent Valeria Golino), one of the first women to be appointed director of a prison, who waas forced to live in a world of pressure and violence further aggravated by the death of her partner (Filippo Timi).
