On January 22nd 2014, Carlo Mazzacurati left us. One of the undisputed masters of Italian cinema, he was a sly observer of the little things in everyday life, of the “marginal” stories that in fact constitute the backbone of Italian storytelling. Ten years after his death, Casa del Cinema will celebrate the director with a retrospective featuring twelve films, to be screened from January 10th through 31st: a cycle of screenings that ranges from his debut, in 1987, with Notte italiana (Italian Night), through his last film, La sedia della felicità, presented at the Torino Film Festival in 2013. His works will be introduced to the audience by a line-up of stars of Italian cinema. The retrospective will be inaugurated by Paola Cortellesi who on Wednesday January 10th, will present the screening of A cavallo della tigre (Riding the Tiger), one of the Roman actress’s first performances on the big screen. The next day, the featured host will be Nanni Moretti, producer of Notte italiana with his Sacher Film production company. They will be followed on the stage of Casa del Cinema by a string of remarkable actors who starred in the films of the Venetian filmmaker, including Valentina Lodovini, Antonio Albanese, Valerio Mastandrea, Isabella Ragonese and Giuseppe Battiston.
