In 2022, the Rome Film Fest decreed the triumph of January by Viesturs Kairišs, winner of the awards for best film, best director and best actor to Kārlis Arnolds Avots. The film – set in January 1991 in Riga, Latvia, during the invasion of the Soviet tanks – not only reconstructs a generation that dreamed of the films of Bergman, Tarkovsky and Jim Jarmusch, but also speaks of the present time and the irresistible force of youth, rediscovering the freedom and enthusiasm of the Nouvelle Vague and the Nová Vlna. “The Film of the Month”will be previewed on Wednesday March 6th (with three repeat screenings through the 29th) before being released on the platform.
