Tuesday April 23rd, as part of the event “Ways of Landscape: Jean Epstein’s Film Practice and Theory”, Casa del Cinema will host the screening of La Montagne Infidèle. On June 22nd 1923, only five days before a violent volcano eruption in Sicily, Jean Epstein and cinematographers Paul Guichard and Léon Donnot went towards the volcano. The result is a documentary that led the author to develop an interest for the scenes from reality that would dominate his filmography since the 1930s, and which in this instance takes the form of a cataclysm and an extraordinary event. The film will be accompanied by live music composed and performed by the musician, composer and disc jockey Økapi. The screening will be introduced by Malvina Giordana (Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History), Víctor Martín García (Universitat Politècnica de València) and Rosa Cardona (Filmoteca de Catalunya). The event is the result of a collaboration between the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Istituto Max Planck for art history and the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, with the support of the Filmoteca de Catalunya.
