From May 14th to June 8th, Casa del Cinema will present five screenings of the “Film of the Month”, Hate (La Haine) by Mathieu Kassovitz, thirty years after its release in theatres and its triumph at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Golden Palm for Best Director. Kassovitz’s second feature film was accompanied by controversy and soon rose to the status of multigenerational cult film: it depicts a day in the life of three feckless twenty-year-olds from the Banlieue in Paris, placing the accent on the crisis of a generation of young people who have no certainties, who are driven by a rage they don’t know how to catalyse. The masterpiece, filmed in striking black and white, will be screened in the version restored by Minerva Pictures and Rarovideo, in collaboration with Cat People Distribuzione.
