In the course of the month, Casa del Cinema will show four screenings of Bound in Heaven, which won two important awards at the most recent Rome Film Fest: the Best Film and Best Debut Film prizes. The directorial debut of Huo Xin, the successful screenwriter, is a profoundly moving and provocative work, which addresses themes rarely explored in Chinese cinema: domestic violence and the challenges faced by a terminally-ill patient within the Chinese healthcare system. Huo, with her skilled direction and the sophistication of her complex screenwriting, brings a powerful story of love and resilience to the screen. Bound in Heaven breaks away from the narrative and stylistic conventions of the local arthouse cinema typically known to Western audiences, marking the emergence of a new and brilliant voice in the landscape of Chinese cinema.
