Following the warm welcome with which Fanny and Alexander were received when screened at Casa del Cinema in January, from March 1st to 12th (with repeat screenings through the 23rd), eight other milestones from Ingrid Bergman’s filmography have been selected for screening. The great Swedish director, who inquired deeply into the human soul, especially the soul of women, tirelessly experimenting with cinematic language, will be the protagonist of the film cycle “Bergman and desire”.
It will be inaugurated Saturday March 1st at 8 pm with the screening of Persona: the film is a masterpiece, rich in suggestions, that influenced many films that came after it, such as Love and War by Woody Allen, Three Women by Robert Altman and Mulholland Drive by David Lynch.
On the following day at 11 am, there will be a screening of Wild Strawberries, a unique film about the meaning of life, the mystery of time, the reasons of memory and the inevitability of remorse.
On Wednesday March 5th at 8 pm, the public is invited to see Summer with Monica, a film adored by François Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard, a fundamental film in Bergman’s career and the ideal crossing between the first films set more strictly in an urban-bourgeois context, and the great works of his expressive maturity.
The next day at 6 pm, the featured film will be The Seventh Seal, the most famous chess game in the history of cinema, while on Friday March 7th at 8 pm, there will be a screening of Smiles of a Summer Night, a sentimental ronde that features the same brilliant and sublime levity of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.
The next day at 6 pm, there will be a screening of The Virgin Spring, a film suspended between myth and tragedy that plunges into a primordial universe in which hope is always the response to perdition.
Sunday March 9th at 6 pm, it will be Scenes from a Marriage, a film originally made for television which analysed, like no other, the conflicts and turmoil of married life.
The series will end on Wednesday March 12th at 8 pm with Cries and Whispers, an extraordinarily intense masterpiece on the theme of suffering and the proximity to death.
