March 8th one hundred years ago was the birth date of Walter Chiari, a giant in Italian cinema from 1947 to 1990.
Casa del Cinema will celebrate his unparallelled talent with the screening of Romance, Massimo Mazzucco’s sophomore film, in competition at the Venice Film Festival in 1986. In this film, Walter Chiari, who returned to the set after a seven-year hiatus, gave life to one of his greatest performances of all time, as a complex and contradictory man, who isolated himself from society in a country house, prisoner of an ill-conceived egotism but capable of flights of generosity and in open confllict with his conformist son, played by a memorable Luca Barbareschi, not yet thirty years old. Barbareschi himself will meet the audience before the screening of the film on Tuesday March 5th at 7:30 pm.
