Following the success in recent months of Martin Scorsese’s Carte Blanche film series, from February 1st to 24th (with repeat screenings through February 29th), Casa del Cinema will entrust its line-up to one of the most important filmmakers in Italian cinema, Marco Bellocchio, who has selected for the public six great classics which have shaped and influenced his imagery. The series will be inaugurated Thursday February 1st at 7:30 pm by Bellocchio himself who will present his Carte Blanche series to the spectators before the screening of Citizen Kane. It will be followed by five milestones in the history of the seventh art by master filmmakers such as Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau (Nosferatu), Charlie Chaplin (The Great Dictator), Carl Theodor Dreyer (Dies Irae – Day of Wrath), Federico Fellini (I vitelloni) and Robert Bresson (A Man Escaped). The programme also features a retrospective of seven titles from Bellocchio’s body of work, two of which will be presented by the director himself and by their stars: Fabrizio Gifuni, at the close of the day dedicated to the Esterno notte series (Sunday February 4th) and Michele Placido, before the screening of Victory March (Monday February 12th at 7:30 pm). The retrospective will also include Fists in the Pocket, Bellocchio’s debut as a director, L’ora di religione, special mention at the Cannes Film Festival, Good Morning, Night starring a remarkable Roberto Herlitzka, Vincere, winner of the David di Donatello, and Marx Can Wait, screened on the occasion of the ceremony to award the director the Honorary Golden Palm.
