Casa del Cinema will dedicate five screenings, between Tuesday December 3rd and Monday January 6th, to Hunting Locations in Palestine (Sopralluoghi in Palestina per “Il Vangelo secondo Matteo”) by Pier Paolo Pasolini. In 1963, the artist travelled with theologian Andrea Carraro through the lands of Israel, Palestine and Jordan to understand whether they could be used as locations for The Gospel According to Matthew. The landscape however was surprisingly too compromised with modernity, and the director found his ideal mythical and archaic scenario in the Sassi of Matera. The documentary that came out of that journey provides fundamental testimony to understand the entire complex intellectual, aesthetic and cultural apparatus on which the timeless and sacral quality underlying Pasolini’s cinema.
