Reading Lolita in Tehran by Eran Riklis was one of the most acclaimed films of the last Rome Film Fest: the film, which screened as a world premiere, won the FS Audience Award and the Special Jury Prize for the women in the cast. Casa del Cinema will feature five screenings, from Monday December 2nd to Wednesday January 8th, of the film directed by Eran Riklis (The Syrian Bride, Lemon Tree), with Golshifteh Farahani (Paterson, The Pirates of the Caribbean) in the starring role. In the film, adapted from the best-seller by Azar Nafisi, a former professor of literature at the University of Teheran dedicates herself to seven of her most passionate students, with the promise of meeting together to secretly read the classics of western literature censored by the regime. Revealing themselves in every way, and putting their hopes, disappointments and desires into words as they read “Lolita”, these young women defy the moralist radicalism of the Iranian state in the aftermath of 1979.
