On the sixtieth anniversary of U.S. president John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s historic tour of Europe, Fuori Orario presents an eighty-minute-long selection of highlights from the original footage in the RAI archives.
From 23 June to 2 July, in 1963, Kennedy made his famous trip to Europe, with an official visit to Italy, as well, which was covered by RAI every step along the way.
In 1998, the original footage of Kennedy’s stay in Italy were arranged and edited by Ciro Giorgini and then broadcast as one continuous film over five hours long: a night broadcast by the Raitre program Fuori Orario that was truly an event. The hours and hours of original footage devoted to the American president attest to the RAI’s commitment to quality journalism and storytelling since its earliest days. Especially for Italian TV in the 1960s, this was a narrative that did not shy away from comparisons with our best filmmaking tradition. The screening at the Film Fest is further proof of Fuori Orario’s premium partnering with Italian film festivals and other film-related events, and also of the bond between RAI and that cinema that captures history and real life, in the best Italian tradition.
