Fifty years after the death of Vittorio De Sica who passed away on November 13th 1974, Casa del Cinema dedicates a tribute to the great filmmaker with a series of seven unforgettable masterpieces, to be shown between November 1st and 21st. They include Oscar®-winning films: Sciuscià, which in 1948 inaugurated the award for Best Foreign Film, Ladri di biciclette (The Bicycle Thieves, in 1950), Ieri, oggi, domani (Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, in 1965) and Il giardino dei Finzi Contini (The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, in 1972). The series will be enriched by the screening of La Ciociara (Two Women), which in 1962 won Sophia Loren the Oscar® for Best Actress, the first to win it for a film in a language other than English. Along with these films, audiences are invited to see Pane, amore e fantasia (Bread, Love and Dreams) by Comencini and Peccato che sia una canaglia (Too Bad She’s Bad) by Blasetti, in which De Sica, in the role of actor, displays his accomplished acting skills in popular comedy.
