For more than a decade, three dysfunctional and bothersome documentary-makers accumulated hundreds of interviews with which to make the definitive film about Paolo Virzì. Their ambition to complete the film and win awards was constantly being undermined by the fear of their own incompetence and of being recognised as failures. In the summer of 2020, as Italy is emerging from the first lockdown to shouts of “Restart!”, the three impulsive authors lock themselves inside an editing booth to search for an ending, and to condense the life and work of the object of their obsession into a feature-length documentary. Their intentions, however, will be overwhelmed by uncontrollable forces.
