The Runway si ispira alla storia vera di un pilota sudamericano che nel 1983 fece un atterraggio di fortuna su un prato vicino a Mallow, in Irlanda e che fu, inaspettatamente, aiutato dagli abitanti del posto a costruire una pista di decollo per poter ripartire. Una vicenda che per qualche tempo ha monopolizzato l’attenzione della comunità locale, e che nel film è vista attraverso gli occhi del giovanissimo Paco, da sempre convinto che il suo sconosciuto genitore fosse spagnolo e lavorasse come astronauta per la NASA.
The Runway is inspired by the true story of a South American pilot who crashed his plane in a field near Mallow, Co. Cork in 1983. Against all odds, the people of the town came together to build a runway to get him home and briefly caught the imagination of the nation. The film is seen through the eyes of nine-year-old Paco who believes his absent father is Spanish and working as a NASA astronaut.

Laureato con lode in Film & Television al Dublin Institute of Technology nel 1999, Ian Power ha diretto cortometraggi e commercials, ricevendo diversi premi e riconoscimenti. È fra gli sceneggiatori della serie televisiva The Clinic, uno dei maggiori successi della televisione nazionale irlandese. Per sviluppare e produrre i propri film ha fondato la Poderosa Pictures. The Runway è il suo primo lungometraggio.
A first class honours graduate of the M.A. Film at D.I.T. Aungier St. in 1999, Ian Power followed his graduation film with the short Buskers, which scooped top prize at numerous international film festivals. In 2001 Power began directing also commercials. His most recent short film, The Wonderful Story of Kelvin Kind won Best Short Drama at The Celtic Film Television Festival in Cardiff. As a writer, Power’s credits include R.T.E.’s prime time drama The Clinic. He is the founder of Poderosa Pictures and continues to work as a director of commercials in Ireland and the U.K. The Runway is his first feature film.
